Starting and Managing a Small Business
In this
module, students build their understanding of how small furniture finishing
businesses are run, how they find their clients and how to price their services
and products. Students will think about
the skills needed to run a business and to consider their own aptitude for
entrepreneurship. They will practice
research and networking skills in tracking down information. They will apply these skills to their job
search and to the development of a product or service.
Objective
By participating in the required activities, you will be able to determine your suitability for starting a business and/or employmentDuring this module, the students will:
- Reflect on their aptitudes learned during the program.
- Visit an entrepreneur and ask questions about small business
- Assess their entrepreneurial abilities.
- Become familiar with the factors to consider when starting a business.

Course structure

Class
time to gather information on the different topics, through discussion,
internet and phone research, and short presentations.

- Do a project to develop and price a product / Web page portfolio
- Visit and talk to a small business owner.
Evaluation
- Producing a report in which they present:• the positive and negative aspects of their personality with respect to the possibility of
becoming an entrepreneur
• their opinion on the advantages and disadvantages of starting a furniture finishing
business
